5/23/2003 Headed to the Pink Palace Museum, arriving a few minutes before opening. This is the home built by (but not lived in) Clarence Saunders, who started Piggly Wiggly. Saw a good IMAX “Kilimanjaro”, had a snack and saw good museum exhibits on local natural history, southern history and Memphis history. Headed for the river and Mud Island, taking the monorail over. Had a deli lunch, then walked the length of the scale model of the Mississippi. Weather is perfect – warm and sunny. Went to the Mississippi River Museum, seeing nice exhibits on history of the river and area from Indians to Civil War, steamboats and modern music. [The Pink Palace and Museum are in the Tennessee Civil War NHA.]
